Amount of traffic

The amount of traffic that a website gets monthly is a key piece of information that you need to take into consideration. However, don’t take this metric at face value.

Some people may look at a website and say “Wow! 500,000 sessions a month! It must be doing very very well.” Or, conversely “This website is only getting 10,000 sessions a month? Hard pass.”

Website traffic is a vanity metric if RPM and overall earnings aren’t considered, so that’s not what we’re looking at here. What we want is a website that’s getting a good amount of traffic in order to verify that it’s healthy and consistent!

I really don’t consider websites that earn fewer than 10,000 sessions in a month. Anything less than this amount means the website is more volatile and there’s just not that much data on top performing pages, audiences, and performance of different monetization methods — especially if you’re trying to trend things out.

Not to mention the fact that many websites under 10,000 sessions a month don’t earn much money.

On the other end of the spectrum, there’s not really a cap to traffic that I would consider. If it’s quality, and your servers can handle it, there’s no such thing as too much traffic!

Obviously websites with a lot of traffic and earnings will be quite pricey, so high-traffic websites will naturally price themselves out of our range.

Because of this, I usually look at websites between 10,000 and 100,000 sessions a month.

Once you find out how much traffic a website is getting, you need to verify that it’s actually legitimate and valuable! Many websites will have fake traffic that can sometimes be hard to spot.

Fortunately, the next few videos help you identify quality traffic.
