Every website is hosted through a hosting service, basically making the website accessible to the internet. There are many different website hosts, with some of the most popular ones being Bluehost, Hostgator, Siteground, Inmotion, Dreamhost, and quite a few more.
Without getting too technical, most of the websites that you’ll find for sale are being hosted by one of these services on a “shared hosting” plan, meaning that there are many different websites being hosted on a single server.
When the website is hosted like this, it’s very easy to access, change, and transfer between different hosts. This is ultimately what we’re looking for.
Some websites, however, mostly on the larger side, may use dedicated hosting servers. These servers are entirely managed by the website owner, and exist solely to host that one web property.
This is a great option for very large sites that need a ton of bandwidth and control, but they’re also quite difficult to transfer and manage. If you’re looking to invest in websites, the better performance is not worth the extra cost and effort that these servers require.
Therefore, you always want to make sure that your prospective website is hosted in a way that’s easy for you. When you’re working on several websites at a time, the last thing you want to be spending your time on is managing the hosting of those websites.
