What niche does the website operate in?

While this is a fairly obvious one that doesn’t take too much time, there are a few things that should be considered in regards to the niche.

First of all, you want to make sure that the niche is something that you can actually work with! If you’re not a techy person, but you purchase a website about wifi routers, then you’re not going to identify good content, know the best ways to add new content, and figure out other monetization methods that can be used.

Once you get people on your team, this wouldn’t be much of a concern, but it’s very important for your first websites. You want to make sure that you do them right!

There may be some niches that you’re not that knowledgeable about, but they can be researched fairly easily. If there’s a good looking deal for a website in a niche like this, it’s probably worth the couple of hours it will take to study up on it!

There are some niches that you’ll straight-up want to avoid, too. There are some cases where you can operate in these niches, but in most cases, it will be extremely difficult to rank or monetize.

Gambling content and adult content should almost always be avoided. Not only are these areas very regulated, but competition is extremely fierce. You don’t want to get yourself into legal trouble — especially for a website where you can’t beat out the competition in the first place!

Health content should also be avoided for the most part. This is because Google is extremely strict with ranking content in the health niche, and rightfully so! While these sites CAN be run, it’s very difficult and complicated to do, so it’s often not worth your time.

Most niches are ripe for the picking, though! As long as it’s advertiser-friendly, has a decent ad rate, and has opportunities for diverse monetization methods, you’re probably good to go!
