Starting off with an easy one! The domain of a website is one of the first things that a visit looks at, making it very important in regards to the customer experience.
Not only that, but it can also sometimes let you into a lot of information about the website’s past!
What we’re going to be looking for here is a domain that’s not spammy looking. In other words, a domain that looks like somebody actually put some thought into choosing it for their website.
Some good made-up domains include: roadlesstraveled.com, catfacts.com, technikal.com, and smartphonereviews.com. These domains are usually descriptive, brandable, spelled correctly, and don’t contain too many hyphens. If a word is spelled weird, it was clearly done to be unique, like Lift being spelled Lyft.
Bad domains are like: cheapphonessale.com, cat-stores-shops.com, ashuslkd.com, bookreading.shop. “Cheap” in a domain name looks scammy, having too many hyphens is spammy, random letters are not english, and most endings other than .com are usually quite spammy as well.
It’s also important to note that the domain name should be relevant to the content! If catfacts.com is a website about vegan dessert recipes, something fishy’s probably going on.
A spammy domain isn’t the end of the world, but it will definitely require you to be a bit more diligent in looking into the past of the website… Doing that will be discussed in the next few videos.
